How You Can Celebrate Giving Tuesday 2023

This November, families, religious groups, and businesses across the country will all come together to celebrate a global day of generosity known as GivingTuesday.

Each year, participants help raise billions of dollars for nonprofit organizations or local families in need. If you want to be part of this global generosity movement—or are simply looking for a way to give back this holiday season—here are a few ways you can celebrate Giving Tuesday 2023.

What Is GivingTuesday?

The Giving Tuesday campaign started in 2012 as a result of the joint efforts of the 92nd Street Y in New York City and the United Nations Foundation. The idea was simple: organize a movement encouraging people to do good.

GivingTuesday is celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, which means that Giving Tuesday 2023 will be celebrated on November 28.

5 Ways To Celebrate Giving Tuesday

The spirit of Giving Tuesday is centered around the concept of “radical generosity,” which is “the concept that the suffering of others should be just as intolerable to us as our own suffering.”

As a result, there are as many ways to celebrate GivingTuesday as there are people in the world! But to make your decision a bit easier, here are 5 basic ways you can celebrate your own Giving Tuesday.

1. Donate

Donating to a nonprofit organization or a family in need is one of the first things people think of when it comes to “radical generosity.” And while making an online donation to a good cause is an excellent way to pay it forward, “donating” doesn’t always have to mean “raising money.”

Consider donating clothes, nonperishable food, unused airline miles, or even credit card points. If you have a particular skill, reach out to a local charity to see if they accept in-kind donations.

2. Plan a Fundraiser

Fundraisers not only help raise money for a worthy cause, they spread the word and inspire others to do the same.

Your fundraiser can take many forms—from hosting an event to asking for donations on your social media posts. If you own a business, consider making a pledge to match employee’s donations to the cause of your choice.

3. Volunteer

At Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida®, we consider volunteers to be the backbone of our mission. And volunteering doesn’t just help the nonprofit, it’s also incredibly rewarding for you!

Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida has a wide range of volunteer opportunities, which means there’s a position that’s perfect for you.

4. Raise Awareness

Sometimes, spreading the word about a great cause—or about Giving Tuesday itself—is the best way to spark a change and inspire those around you.

Make social media posts recognizing your favorite organizations (don’t forget to add #GivingTuesday!) or post links to your donation page. Tell your employer or another organization you belong to about Giving Tuesday 2023 and plan an event or fundraiser.

5. Shop Consciously

Late November is when most people kick off their holiday shopping anyway, so why not do your Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping from brands that give back?

Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida’s promotional partners offer plenty of opportunities to pick up gifts that help contribute to our mission of granting wishes to deserving children.

Spread the Word About Giving Tuesday 2023

It’s easy to get caught up in the hubbub of the holidays, but GivingTuesday reminds us to stop and celebrate the real reason for the season—spreading joy and kindness.

At Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida, we are dedicated to lighting a spark of hope in young people whose lives have been changed by life-threatening illness. This Giving Tuesday, donations to Make-A-Wish will help us reach our goal of granting 425 wishes throughout the Central and Northern Florida area.
